Apollo Tires is keen to make inroads in to Thailand market and aims to corner 5 per cent share in the next two-three years. Apollo is confident of achieving top-10 position within short period of time. The India-Thailand Free Trade Agreement has brought import duties down to 6 per cent for tire imports from India for trucks, buses and passenger vehicles, and 3 per cent for farm tires. That has helped the company make its tires affordable. Apollo Tires sales in Thailand grew by 300 per cent last year, though from a small base, had an ambition to have a manufacturing facility in Asean eventually, but its current focus would be on its newly acquired facility in Hungary. With sales of US$2.2 billion (Bt72 billion) in its 2014 fiscal year, Apollo Tires is one of the first Indian tire manufacturers to expand and make acquisitions internationally. Continental recently inaugurated a new 13 000 square metre facility to expand its R&D capabilities in Bangalore, India. Following on from the news that Mitas will be replacing the Continental brand with their own in 2015, the company has now revealed a key part of its new line-up with the introduction of its Very High Flexion (VF) tires which are manufactured at their Otrokovice plant in the Czech Republic and in their American plant in Iowa. Now available from Mitas Premium are the VF 380/95R38 HC 2000 and VF 480/95R50 HC 2000 patterns for high horsepower tractors whilst for Sprayer applications the VF 380/90R46 HC 1000 is now available with additional sizes HC 2000 – the VF 600/70R30 and VF 710/70R42 being released in due course. It has been announced in Romania that the country's Competition Council has approved the proposed takeover of Reifen Ihle's Romanian operation – Ihle Anvelope by Michelin.
